LUDHIANA PSEB 2011 RESULTS -Students fare poorly in maths

Students of the district fared poorly in maths in the recently declared class X Punjab School Education Board results. However, the district posted better results in other subjects.Only 65.20% of students in the district passed in maths, whereas in Punjabi the pass percentage was over 90.58 %.

Over 46,000 students of private and government schools in the district affiliated to PSEB appeared in class X exams. The result showed that English is no more a worry for schools, as the pass percentage is 83.60%. Earlier, there were a large number of students getting compartment in the subject.

The highest pass percentage was in the subject of Punjabi, wherein 41,933 students cleared the exam. This was followed by Hindi with a pass percentage of 90.46%. Social studies with a pass percentage of 83.71 %, saw 38,738 students clear the exam. This was followed by English with a pass percentage of 83.60%, with 38,699 students clearing the exam. The pass percentage in science was 82.52%. This was followed by maths with a pass percentage of 65.20%.Everest Public School principal and president of the Association of PSEB Affiliated Schools Punjab, Rajinder Sharma said the main reason for the low pass percentage in Maths is that the syllabus has not been equally divided between the two semesters.

In the first semester, students had only one unit to cover, whereas in the second, they had three units. ML Kalra, RS Model School principal said students could not get proper guidance.
