Panjab University (PU ) MSc results: Local girls bag top 3 ranks in PU

Shilpa Jindal, Shivani Sareen Dhir, Parminder Kaur and Guneet Kaur ' all students of MSc final semester ' have been busy answering phone calls since Friday morning. The four have secured top ranks in the Panjab University results that were declared on Thursday and friends have been calling to congratulate.

Khalsa College for Women's students Shilpa and Shivani have taken the top two ranks with 88.86% and 88.43% respectively. Parminder, a student of Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women, has taken the third university position by scoring 88.3%. With 86% marks, Guneet, a student of the same college and resident of Jamalpur, has secured the seventh rank.

For Daresi-resident Shilpa, this is not the first taste of success as she had topped the university in each of the last three semesters. In the first semester she got 88.86%, 87% in the second and 88.4% in third semester. Aware that it is not an easy feat, Shilpa said, ''I have set a record that will be hard to break.''The topper said she never took tuitions but spent hours in self study. Her eyes are set on starting a software development business, but for now she is enjoying the moment. ''I will celebrate with my friends in the evening,'' she said. Shivani, who stays in Pakhowal Road, said scoring well this time was more difficult than usual since she got married days before the exam.

''I got engaged on May 13; May 23 was my wedding and on May 30 I had to write the exam. The whole month was very busy and I was not able to give enough time for revision. But since I used to pay close attention in class and go over lessons everyday, I was able to do well,'' she said. Shivani said she wants to be a lecturer.

Tibba Road-resident Parminder was a little disappointed with the result since she had tried hard to come first. Parminder, who has recently joined as a teacher in a private school, said she used to lock herself in a room and revise while her brothers watched TV to tease her.
